Your Belief System, or, Raising your Expectations ~ August 14th

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

A system is a bunch of elements that work together. Your body is a system. You have a belief system. It effects how you see yourself and others. If things are going wrong in our lives, it means some parts of our system are not working. For instance, my body could be 99 % healthy, but that other 1% can painfully dominate my senses. Likewise, when something is wrong in belief system, it effects my actions/life.

Acts 3:1-11 “Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. (2) And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; (3) Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. (4) And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. (5) And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. (6) Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.(7) And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. (8) And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. (9) And all the people saw him walking and praising God: (10) And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. (11) And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

To have faith in something, you act on it. As we study God’s Word, we show our faith by acting on the Word. By doing this, we “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ…” Peter believed God would heal the cripple. He acted on that belief. A miracle was the result.

We are made in God’s image. The way we see ourselves is the way we see Jesus. How do you see yourself? Fearful and weak? Joyful and strong? Merciful and forgiving? Doubting and non-trustworthy? “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” How did the cripple see himself? What was his belief system? How did he change after being healed? How do you change your belief system? By studying the Word and praying for understanding. The more we tune our beliefs to God’s Word, the stronger we are in Christ.

Do we see ourselves as sufficient Christians? Do we see ourselves as able to perform miracles through Christ? What do we expect? Faith broadens our expectations. Beliefs will grow, whether they are negative or positive. Beliefs determine your expectations. “Ye have not because ye asked not.” We study the Bible to raise our expectations. Attempt great things for God, expect great things from God. When you are content to live without miracles, you will not get them. We should always be pressing on to higher ground. God wants us to abound in life by one, Christ Jesus.
